The Kenton Bridge Medical Centre: Rubella (German Measles)
German measles (Rubella): This rash appears on the first day and usually covers the body, arms and legs in small pink patches and does not itch. No other symptoms are usually present apart from occasional aching joints. It is infectious from two days before the rash appears, until the rash disappears after about four or five days. The only danger is to unborn babies and therefore it is most important that all people who have been in contact with anyone with German Measles are informed. Pregnant women who have been in contact with German Measles should contact their doctor who will arrange blood tests if necessary to establish whether there is any risk of contracting the disease. Immunisation can prevent German Measles.
