| The Kenton Bridge Medical Centre: Low Back Pain | |
| Low back pain is
best prevented by sensible lifting and good posture. If you are unfortunate enough to
experience low back pain this may be helped by heat (hot water bottle or hot pad), pain
killers such as paracetamol, aspirin or ibuprofen, (provided that you are not allergic to
aspirin or that you do not have a stomach ulcer, heartburn or asthma). Recent medical evidence suggests that it is better to walk about or lie down flat rather than sitting if you have back pain. Most back pain gets better within 10 days. If you have leaking urine or stools, or pins and needles in your bottom then you need to be seen urgently.
